Gear List
So this trail thing, all that walkin around, requires things, everyone takes things, some people take more than others, but things, it's all about the things, this page on the blog anyways
As there are two intrepid hikers on this journey there are opportunities to economize on gear carried by sharing items, other times the weight for things is proportional for the hikers in the party such as in consumables like soap and stove fuel. We'll begin this discussion on the big three for hikers gear choices
Shelter
For our home this trip we have elected to carry a big agnes ul3 hv platinum, fancy code for a 3 person tent with more headroom due to a cross bar in the pole design in the center of the tent, and using light weight nylons etc to bring in the weight to just shy of 3lbs. Why a three person tent? Well like frozen dinners at the grocery, two servings really means dinner for one, cept you can pretend you aren't eating alone like the sadsack you are, and a tent for 3 really means for three sardines, two hikers with gear and such will enjoy the elbow room that a "3" person tent provides
Sleeping System
For sleeps we both have air mattresses, weighing in about 18oz each, with down sleeping sacks and a silk liner to help keep the filth and stink out of the down aslong al possible, and really it's like having silk sheets in the wilds.. So fancy.. The main difference in our setup is my lovely wife has a lightweight inflatable pillow, I chose to just cram leftover things into leftover bags and lay my head on that ever random mess, I suspect I'll have the more comfy pillow *cough
Backpacks
To haul our impressive mountain of junk we have internal framed backpacks, more modern than external frames, but do not carry extremely heavy loads as well, good thing we aren't carrying extremely heavy loads right? I have an osprey exos 58L that ive been toting around for about ten years, my lovely wife has a superb gossamer gear bag, the mariposa, both weigh in about 2.5lbs but mine is by far the dirtiest
With the big three covered there are a lot of knick-knacks that make up the rest of a thru hikers toolkit, cooking system ,hygiene, repair kit, first aid, electronics like cameras and phones etc, poop shovel for..gardening
We'll add a more detailed list of items later as we decide what was a good choice and what wasn't, but you can see our gear neatly arranged below

Impressive...Gear seems so advanced these days. Hoping you post pros/cons of the gear that you’ve selected after practical application. I’m curious to read if micro equates to durability before I reinvest in new gear. Stay safe my friend.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely add commentary on gear choices and any replacements we make, and random thoughts on gear as the mood strikes me, I expect our gear list will be somewhat different by hikes end
DeleteI sincerely hope you packed enough titanium sporks.
