If you thought we started late yesterday, oh brother, today was way later, partly because we knew we had a low mileage day today, partly because it was freezing all night..
The weather prediction as a lil off, surprise surprise, and it dropped well below freezing last night, I know this because our tent is a number of degrees warmer inside at night, and it dropped below freezing inside the tent (per our temperature logger, the almighty kestrel), so there was a lil shivering, much regret at the 3am bathroom (haha bathroom as if) run, and a fair bit of broken sleep, otherwise the camp site was lovely, nice flat spot, morning sun to warm us up, all the icey water were could drink, life is good
We departed, and immediately headed up hill, but it want to much of a climb, and while the sun was out it was pretty cool all day, so much so taking breaks in the shade was to chilly after long. We were back over 8500ft in no time and the trail opened up into amazing views into valleys, the snow capped San Gorgonio and San Jacinto peaks, a valley full of lower laying clouds towards the city San Bernardino, we also saw back to the desert floor near where we hit the I-10 highway, but in the other direction to a place called desert palm springs.
We arrived at the murder shack (group campground with a rustic lodge in need of repairs) to find the tail end of trail magic, what a delight, I scored a gatorade and my wife a beer, not to mention chilled kitkats
Talking to the trail angel she's said the night before there was a large group of hikers and they cooked up a feast of burgers and such, people are so generous it consistently humbles us
We are camped under a white fur pine, and 6 other hikers just rolled up, at 7pm.. Noisey noisey
