What an adventure today, started at an ok time, we were waiting for the interlopers to move on so we could go on about our business with a semblance of privacy, while we are aware that we share this trail with 5000 other hikers and countless day hikers etc, it's still a definite buzzkill when we have to camp in close proximity to others, definitely our problem, most other hikers seem to have no problem being all up I each other's business, which is mind boggling to me, all this space..might as well enjoy the distance from others that is usually impossible to get in the usual rat race
In other news we passed mile 300 this afternoon, maybe not as momentous as mile 100, this is certainly a record for both of us in distance and time spent in the wilderness/desert, even with days if we are pushing 30 days in the tent, and still far so good, only the two holes we found and fixed 100 miles ago in Banning.
We had lunch, consisting of 4lbs of tuna on a taco sized tortilla, with mayonnaise.. Was maybe too much tuna but we needed the protein (ok it was a 6.4oz satchel). It was a crammed full burrito experience and kinda messy. The spot was lovely though, by the largest water source weve seen yet, 10ft wide where we were, and flowing really well, we followed the river for a number of miles after lunch but at some elevation as the trail took us up the wall of the valley/ravine the river flows through, and it looked like such a neat place to visit, so many rock pools and little waterfalls along the way
Along the way we saw two nope ropes, a number of ticks tried to hitch hike on me, a nosey stellar jay, assorted lizards, a squirrel, and more bugs and gnats than we've had to deal with yet, I spent half the day clapping awkwardly while trying to smash their brains out
We had planned a longer day today, 19 miles at least, but we could not pass up this spot we found, not marked on any of the maps and no room for interlopers.. It's perfect.. If not for the grass with ticks in it, just another item of excitement on the trail, and frankly a surprise, I didn't expect to find them in the desert..
Okies I'm beat, my everything hurts and I needs vitamin I and a nap, so catch you all on the flip side
