We had a pretty good night at our secret camp site, a lot of bugs though we're trying to eat us but our trusty tent mesh didn't fail us, thankfully none of them figured out how to crawl thru where the zippers meet, something tiny could possibly squeeze in there, there were dozens of flies, a few spiders probably wanting to eat the flies, the usual..

Our first stop was the deep creek hot springs, home to rare but sometimes fatal bacteria allegedly, so we naturally avoided the hot pools, but we did rest up a ways up the river where the running water was lovely and cool.  We ended up staying there for about three hours, ate our tuna burrito, washed some clothes, enjoyed the soothing sounds of running water, it was lovely

We headed back out after midday and for most of the day it was pretty gentle ups n downs, pretty exposed, but we were well watered and fed, and the temp was fairly reasonable too, win win

We had about 3 liters of water with us to wander another 6 miles to the next water source at a dam spillway, it was shallow but flowing well, and only took a second to fill up our gallon water filter jug. We sat on the sandy bank while we filtered water and after a lil lolly gagging headed out with 5 litres of water each, enough for the next section to water, plus an overnight.

We are a lil worse wear, sore feet and a free blister hot spots, and somehow yesterday I tweaked my left knee so walking has been at a slower pace, especially down steeper hills. After reviewing our maps we saw a note for a road crossing that a local pizza place would deliver to.. And we decided that it would make a great dinner

As we approached the road my knee was giving me more grief and after some deliberation we decided to scoot to a nearby best western to recuperate, a damaged knee could be life changing (not in a good way), so we were lucky and got an uber and a hotel room was available at last minute, talk about fortuitous

So we are now showered, and relatively clean, and happy to be at rest. We also retrieved our resupply box with food and essentials and have some time to plan our next leg, which looks to be fraught with challenges and closures..

  1. What an adventure. Glad there are best westerns around to recuperate in and hope that knee is nothing serious. Love and hugz to you both xxx
